  • Faneuil Hall & the Test of the Gilded Grasshopper (View X2)<br /> 1/30/2010<br /> <br /> Faneuil Hall, located near the waterfront and today's Government Center, in Boston, Massachusetts, has been a marketplace and a meeting hall since 1742. It was the site of several speeches by Samuel Adams, James Otis, and others encouraging independence from Great Britain, and is now part of Boston National Historical Park and a well known stop on the Freedom Trail. It is sometimes referred to as "the Cradle of Liberty".<br /> <br /> The gilded grasshopper weather vane on top of the building was created by silversmith Shem Drowne in 1742. Gilded with gold leaf the copper weather vane weighs eighty pounds and is four feet long.<br /> <br /> Knowledge of the grasshopper was used as a test to determine if people were spies during the Revolution period. The people would ask suspected spies the identity of the object on the top of Faneuil Hall; if they answered correctly, then they were free; if not, they were convicted as British spies. (Wikipedia)

I have some interesting vistas except for the 4 high tension wires and poles that traverse the views. But one must make do, so I tried to integrate them into the scene as best I could.   • Strollers<br /> 1/22/2010<br /> Best viewed XL<br /> I returned to Lake Quannapowitt to test a Nikon N80 SLR I picked up for my son to use in his Photography 101 course at college. The camera was used and looked a little rough so I took some test shots. Film is very different from digital, if you've forgotten, as I had. In color, this actually came out pretty well but trouble with my scanner resulted in muddy scans, and hence I PP'd it into this B&W image, which I think still looks Ok. The camera is a keeper and after his course, I just may shoot some more with it. <br /> <br /> Tip: Pay attention to this film thing - I think it's going to be big!
